Obtainium is really just another word for recyclable waste. In certain artist communities, Obtainium is regarded as consistent waste, ie the type of thing, in enough quantity, that repeating patterns can be formed. For example, one artist made an entire house out of tequila bottles.

We look at it as pre-disposed overstock. None of our Obtainium items have ever seen a trash can, and have been stored such that they could be used like new. Frequently, they're in enough quantity to make large scale projects happen. Plus this is our best option for recycling them and avoiding a landfill.
