Sometimes, particularly as you get into heavier poi, you need a little more ... support... than kevlar grips offer. Big poi transfer a LOT of weight to the hands and some of our bigger options can put immense force on the hands and on the grips. THAT'S when you need to move up to leather.
Dubbed "boy grips" by our field testers, these 1" wide, steel and leather strap grips were designed by a third generation leather worker. They are a double-loop, self-synching grip like our basic 4 in 1 grips, and can be used in 'single loop' and 'nail' configurations as well. However, these grips are actually completely isolated, dual single-loops.
Why? Because leather has a nasty tendency to break unexpectedly. It wears down a little until it's "broken in", then stays looking exactly the same until it's ready to break. With a single piece leather grip, that can mean total tool failure without any indication that it's going to happen. With dual, isolated single-loops, if either one breaks, you KNOW the other is not far behind, but the odds of both breaking at the same time drop dramatically.
These are the first leather grips with the design behind them to wear the Bearclaw name.
